Switch to Manual
Author: NatalieRealise Your Camera’s Potential – £45
On the Switch To Manual workshop you will learn how to make creative exposures by understanding the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
The workshop is aimed at improver photographers with cameras that have Manual and who are looking for an intermediate course that takes them off automatic shooting.
The Switch to Manual workshop will allow you to use your camera to its full capabilities as you learn to influence depth of field and movement in your images. It is the final step-up in understanding your camera so that you can choose an exposure – whether using A, S or M – for a desired creative effect.
You will learn how to pick an appropriate f-stop and shutter speed for a creative exposure.
- Understand photographic terms such as aperture, f-stops, depth of field, shutter speed, ISO
- Get to grips with f-stops and when to use the aperture-priority mode (A/Av)
- Feel comfortable using the shutter-priority mode (S/Tv) to freeze or flow movement
- The what, when, why and how of shooting in manual mode (M)
Throughout the workshop, all photographic terms will be explained in a jargon free manner so that you can move comfortably towards shooting on manual.
Step-by-step, you’ll be taken off the basic settings and shown the advantages of using the priority modes over manual, as well as situations in which fully manual is necessary.
This workshop is aimed at improvers, so you will get the most out of it if you have already completed Camera Settings and Explore Exposure.
Switch To Manual is all about the creative side of exposure. It is complemented by Explore Exposure earlier in the day which goes into the technicalities of exposure. Together have been designed to give you a full day – both technically and creatively – of extending your photographic capabilities.
When taken together on the same day this qualifies you for a £5 discount off each workshop; that’s 6 hours of photography for £80. Never again will you shoot on auto!
You will need a SLR or a compact camera with advanced functions to attend this workshop. If you are not sure if your compact has the relevant settings (e.g. A/Av, S/Tv or manual) please get in contact and I’ll find out for you.
